At Regional Election campaign launch: CPDM councillors in Meme told to respect party discipline

Municipal councillors of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, (CPDM), in the three sub divisions of Meme Division, South West region have been reminded to respect party discipline during the first-ever election of regional councillors come December 6.

Benjamin Motanga Itoe, Head of the CPDM Central Committee permanent delegation for Meme, made the reminder at the Kumba City Council Hall on Wednesday November 25, 2020 during the launch of campaigns for the election.

Some 151 municipal councillors drawn from the Kumba I, II, III, Konye and Mbonge councils in Meme Division are expected to cast their votes in Kumba when the polls open on Sunday, December 6. They will be voting for the lone 15-member CPDM list of regional councillors for the division, given that the ruling party is contesting the election unopposed in the division.

Benjamin Itoe told the electors that the selection criteria followed party rules and the electoral college of the indirect vote must also follow same party rules. He called on those who wanted to be part of the list but were not selected to support those who were selected for the party’s flag to fly higher. He also asked them to remain loyal to the party in order to grab more victories in subsequent elections.

Speaking as he welcomed the councillors and other supporters of the party to the Green City, Gregory Mewanu, Kumba City Mayor, called on the would-be Meme representatives at the South West regional council to adopt good practices when eventually in office.

He also called on government to foster the implementation of the resolutions of the Major National Dialogue among which is the one giving the conflict-ravaged North West and South West regions a special status. 

According Gregory Mewanu, the full implementation of the special status will open doors for peace and bring the most needed development to the regions.
