Douala-based business mogul and president of a six-village development association in the Nkambe Central Subdivision of the Donga Mantung Division in the North West Region, Ta Tamfu Waka Emmanuel, has donated a multicolor and multifunctional printer to NewsWatch.

The brand-new multicolour printer was delivered to the Editor-in-Chief of NewsWatch, Ndi Eugene Ndi, at the media organ’s Polytech Yaounde office on Tuesday, December 10.

Waka, who is the National President of the Mbuwarr Development & Cultural Association, is fulfilling a promise he made to the media house during its 10th anniversary celebration last year.

The association that Waka leads is made up of Wat, Mbaa, Nwangri, Kup, Chup and Bongom villages of the Nkambe Central Subdivision in the Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region.

During the event at the Djeuga Palace Hotel in Yaounde on August 19, 2023, chaired by the Inspector General, Representing the Minister of Communication, some Cameroonians were recognized for outstanding services to the nation.

Waka, who has been president of the six-village development association for  over two decades, was recognized with the Community Development Advocacy Award. The jury said he was being recognized “for championing the advocacy for the implantation of the Guinness Water for Life project in Mbuwarr”.

Working with the brewery company at the time, Waka led the lobbying for the potable water scheme that was funded by Guinness/Diageo Cameroon. As president of the multi-village development association, he also spearheaded the feasibility studies for extension of electricity to Mbuwarr zone – covering the six villages in Nkambe central subdivision.

In his acceptance speech at the award ceremony, Waka thanked NewsWatch for honoring him with the prestigious award, saying it is a call for more community service on his part.

“Beyond just being a recognition, this award is a motivation and a positive  exposure for me,” Waka said, adding that: “It is also a call for me to work more and harder for the people of Mbuwarr zone and the entire Wimbum community in general”, he said.

As an anniversary gift to NewsWatch, the Mbuwarr president then promised the media house the printer.

Political, religious and traditional authorities, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Yaounde, members of the civil society and the media attended the ceremony.

NewsWatch editorial team had themed the 10th anniversary “A decade of making a difference in the Cameroon media landscape.”
