As bulldozers and excavators carve through the rugged terrain of the Ndu-Binka-Nkambe stretch of the Ring Road in the Donga Mantung Division, a parallel movement is taking roots—one that is empowering communities with knowledge, resilience, and civic pride. From Binju on June 3, 2025, to Nkambe on June 13, 2025, a series of sensitization campaigns have been held to educate residents on prevention of HIV/AIDS, environmental protection, road safety, and the preservation of national road patrimony.

The Cameroon Development Network is spearheading the initiative in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Ministry of Public Works (MINTP), and MAG SARL; the construction firm executing Lot 2 of the Ring Road project. Together, they are transforming a road project into a platform for holistic development.

The campaign featured powerful messages from key speakers such as Dr. Dan Asabe, Director of the Higher Institute for Professional Development and Training (HIPDET) who emphasized the role of education in curbing HIV/AIDS and fostering community development including carrying tests, use of condoms among others.

Dr. Yolar Blandine Ngwangkfu, trainer at the Nkambe branch of world’s largest knowledge-led platform on integrated land use, dedicated to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Climate Agreement, GLFx, and Fai Cassian Ndi, Programs Coordinator of Cameroon Development Network spoke on the role of community members in ensuring a sound environment, urging communities to combat plastic pollution and deforestation.

On his part, Chia Demian an expert in road security and safety at Africa Engineering consulting firm addressed road safety and infrastructure protection, calling for responsible use and community vigilance.

Through interactive workshops, free screening of HIV/AIDS, and door-to-door sensitization, the construction of the Ndu-Binka-Nkambe stretch of the Ring Road by MAG SARL is already reshaping attitudes and behaviors. Residents are not just witnessing the transformation of their roads—they are becoming active stewards of their health, environment, and shared infrastructure.
