The newly elected executive of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) Yaounde chapter, has swung into action seventy-two hours after it was elected.

The team led by experienced journalist with penchant for sports reporting,  Francis Ajumane, on Wednesday began a tour of media houses and media professionals to sweet-talk potential and inactive members to come on board, delivering on a promise made during their election.

In a release on Monday, the newly elected president said he and his team “are fully committed to fostering a stronger, united and dynamic” CAMASEJ Yaounde.

During the tour, the new executive team will listen to ideas, concerns and suggestions, and also explore practical ways of making the socio-professional association in the nation’s capital more inclusive, vibrant and attractive.

Elected unopposed

The Ajumane-led executive of CAMASEJ Yaounde was elected unopposed during the chapter election on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Two emissaries from the National Bureau of the association, Wanchia Cynthia the Public Relations Officer and Nanji Pelagie who is National Financial Secretary supervised the vote at the CAMASEJ National Secretariat.

“I thank members of CAMASEJ Yaounde for giving me this opportunity to lead the association,” Ajumane said following his election. “It is a huge task to lead such a prestigious chapter and I feel we are up to the task,” he further said.

The newly elected president of CAMASEJ Yaounde promised as an immediate action that he and his team are going to act like the proverbial fishers of men –bringing every member on board for “our success relies on members adhering to and being committed to our vision,” he said.

When all or at least a majority would have been on board, the new executive of CAMASEJ Yaounde, the new president said will focus on enhancing the professional aptitude of members. This, he explained will be done through regular trainings and other professional activities.

The team

Worthy to note that Francis Ajumane replaces NewsWatch Publisher, Ndi Eugene Ndi at the helm of the Yaounde chapter of CAMASEJ. Ndi who served a first four-year term as president had announced he was not seeking re-election, despite being eligible.

The Ajumane-led team includes the Vice President Irene Manti Ayonghe, Secretary General Bizel-Bi Mafor, Assistant Secretary General Albert Njebusi, Financial Secretary Nancy Fawoh, Assistant Financial Secretary Etienne Mainimo,  Treasurer Brenda Yufeh, Public Relations Officer Louvier Kindo, Social Secretary Emmanuel Beng and Auditor Hycenth Chia.
