Youth-led organisation Local Youth Corner (LOYOC) Cameroon has concluded the fourth edition of its annual ‘Na-We-We’ Sports Jamboree with one of the key highlights being a significant donation to schoolchildren in the host Region.

The 2025 edition of the annual event that uses sports to foster social cohesion and civic values among displaced persons and host communities in Cameroon held in Bertoua in the East Region of the country.

Youth Affairs and Civic Education Minister speaking at closing ceremony

Themed “Uniting Through Sports,” the fourth edition of the sports jamboree featured sports including football, handball, basketball and dance and community engagement activities including workshops on moral, civic, and entrepreneurial rearmament through which organisers created safe spaces for dialogue and peer learning among refugees, IDPs, and host communities.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education (MINJEC) Mounouna Foutsou chaired the closing ceremony of the month-long event at the Mokolo Stadium (Stade de Mokolo) in Bertoua on Sunday August 31, in the presence of the Governor of the East Region Grégoire Mvongo and other dignitaries.

Beneficiary receiving school bag with books

During the ceremony, LOYOC offered educational materials and financial support to some school kids in the region that is home to thousands of refugees from the neighboring Central African Republic and other Cameroonians displaced by the ongoing conflict in the two English-speaking Regions, and the Boko Haram insurgency in the Far North Region of the country.

Among the beneficiaries, a LOYOC spokesperson said were children from the vulnerable population and top five students from some 20 schools in the Region among others. The donations, the official said, were made possible thanks to donations from LOYOC partners and well-wishers.
