Access Bank Cameroon, a wholly owned subsidiary of Access Bank PLC, has made significant strides in the banking sector, solidifying its market position as one of the leading financial institutions in the central African country and beyond.

During a press briefing held in Douala on Saturday, March 27, 2025, Access Bank Cameroon executives presented an impressive growth trajectory and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to financial inclusion.

Since its establishment in Cameroon in May 2022, the bank has rapidly emerged as a key player in the Cameroonian financial sector, achieving significant milestones in just over two years.

Managing Director Ellis Asu Nzo highlighted the bank’s remarkable progress, declaring a customer deposit increase of FCFA 146 billion – a testament to the strong confidence customers have in the bank. He also emphasized the bank’s expansion in Douala and Yaounde, alongside the introduction of cutting-edge digital products aimed at enhancing the banking experience for its customers.

To address the financial services gap, where only 15% of adults have access to formal banking, Access Bank Cameroon has launched innovative solutions targeting SMEs, women, and youth, including: AccessMore Mobile Banking App for seamless transactions; USSD Banking Services for users without internet access; TradePlus Solution to facilitate trade financing; PrimusPlus Platform for corporate account management; and Versatile payment cards like the Access Prepaid Card and Visa Debit Card.

Access Bank Cameroon is also leading sustainability efforts through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, officials disclosed.

“We impacted 200,000 lives in 2024 alone through programs focusing on education, health, environmental conservation, and entrepreneurship,” Nzo said.

In the first quarter of 2025, the bank has already made significant contributions, notably partnering with the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education (MINJEC) for the marketing and distribution of youth biometric cards in Cameroon. The bank has also collaborated with microfinance institutions to support individuals without formal banking relationships.

Looking ahead, Access Bank Cameroon plans to expand its branch network, drive digital innovation, support intra-African trade, empower SMEs, and promote gender-inclusive banking.

The managing director said he and his team will continues to position the bank as a transformative force in the financial sector, fostering progress and prosperity within Cameroon and across Africa.

In 2024, Access Bank Cameroon received several prestigious awards, including: Best Banking CEO, Cameroon (Global Brands Magazine); Fastest Growing Bank (Cameroon English Newspaper Publishers Association); Best Customer Service Bank (International Finance Magazine and The Guardian Post); and Excellence in Banking Innovation (Ecomatin).
