Engineer Alvan Njonjo of road construction company MAG Sarl has received national recognition for his outstanding technical expertise in supervising works on the Ring Road project in the North West Region.

Njonjo was crowned “Master of Asphalt Excellence” during the Decennial Trendsetters Awards organised by leading English-language newspaper, The Voice. The award ceremony formed part of activities marking the newspaper’s 10th anniversary celebration held in Yaounde on May 30, 2026.

The young engineer was honoured alongside several distinguished personalities, including renowned anti-corruption advocate and former presidential candidate Barrister Akere Muna, the Director General of Treasury, Financial and Monetary Cooperation at the Ministry of Finance Moh Sylvester, the Director General of the Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilisation Fund (CSPH) Okie Johnson Ndoh, and the General Manager of Ntarikon Cooperative Credit Union Limited (NtaCCUL) Ade Divine Muma, among others.

According to the organisers, the award was conferred on Njonjo in recognition of his exceptional technical expertise and precision in overseeing asphalt works on the Ndu-Binka-Nkambe section of the Ring Road.

In the citation accompanying the award, organisers praised Njonjo for laying a durable foundation for one of the region’s most strategic economic corridors.

“This award is proudly presented to Njonjo Alvan of MAG Sarl in recognition of his outstanding technical expertise and precision in overseeing the asphalt works for the Ndu-Binka-Nkambe stretch of the Ring Road. By laying the durable foundation for one of the region’s most critical economic corridors, Mr Njonjo has demonstrated an uncompromising commitment to quality, ensuring the asphalt mix and application met the highest international standards,” the citation stated.

The citation further highlighted his meticulous attention to detail, surface smoothness and structural resilience, noting that his work guarantees safer and smoother travel for thousands of commuters while setting a benchmark for highway construction excellence.

Speaking after receiving the award, Njonjo expressed gratitude to the jury chaired by Christian Ngah, senior journalist, publisher of The Guardian Post newspaper and President of the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers Association (CENPA), for finding him worthy of the distinction.

He also paid tribute to his employer, MAG Sarl, for providing him with the opportunity to demonstrate his expertise on the Ring Road project.

“We were simply doing the work we were called upon to do, but I did not know people were watching and appreciating our efforts,” Njonjo said.

“I dedicate this award to MAG Sarl. Without the opportunity given to me, I would not have received this recognition,” he added.

The latest honour comes barely four months after Njonjo received a traditional title from the Fon of Mbot, the paramount traditional ruler of the Wiwarr Clan of the Donga Mantung Division, His Majesty Fon Shey Barnabas Mbunwe II.

The traditional ruler conferred on him the title of “Ta Nformi Ring Road” in recognition of his exceptional contribution and expertise in the Ring Road construction project, which has had a lasting positive impact on the local community.
