Some trainees and senior officers from the Yaounde International War College (ESIG) have browsed through cybersecurity mechanisms implemented by Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL). As part of its 20th anniversary celebration, some 60 trainees and senior officers from ESIG visited the headquarters of the state-owned telco in Yaounde on Monday, July 21.

Led by Brigadier General Nka Valere, Commander of ESIG, the visit was part of the institution’s training module entitled “Leadership and Management”. The guarantors of territorial sovereignty from 26 African and European states represented at the ESIG said they were keen to celebrate alongside the custodian of Cameroon’s digital sovereignty that also celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.

During insightful discussions on the theme: “CAMTEL and the protection of personal data in the face of cybercrime”, the visitors gained knowledge on the incumbent telecoms company’s work in the telecommunications and digital fields as well as its envisaged resilience strategy in the event of an incident such as a network outage.

“We are leaving here satisfied,” said General Nka Valere who admitted that the visitors were fully edified on advanced digital services.

The representative of the General Manager of CAMTEL at the event said the state-owned company and ESIG share the same dynamic – that of national resilience.

“We salute the fundamental role of the defense and security forces whose vigilance and dissuasion capacities remain very vital to the physical protection of our infrastructure,” said Francis Ottou, Technical Adviser No 1 to the General Manager of CAMTEL.

He added that: “Each time the territory is protected, each time a relay is protected, each time a criminal is neutralized, the entire national connection is protected”.

The exercise saw the exchange of gifts between both parties.
