Traces of smiles were still visible on the faces of indigenes of the Nkambe Fondom following news of scholarship offers for their children wishing to pursue professional studies in the health sector.

The scholarship announcement was made over the weekend to the sub-chiefs of the Nkambe Fondom during their routine traditional council session at the palace. It was conveyed by Afor Roland, Public Relations Officer of the Nkambe University Institute of Science and Technology (NUIST).

According to Afor, the scholarships are being offered by the institute’s Chief Executive Officer, Nformi Hyacinth, an elite of Binju.

Speaking to PALACE ECHOES, a local information channel that provides updates on activities in the palace and the Nkambe Fondom, Afor said the scholarship scheme is intended to cover the entire fondom. It will begin with Nkambe in the first phase before progressively extending to other quarters of the fondom.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, two students from Nkambe who obtain the best results at the GCE Advanced Level and wish to pursue professional nursing studies will benefit from the scheme.

The beneficiaries will undertake three-year training in any of the health specialties offered by the institution, leading to the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND). The tuition package for the two students is estimated at FCFA 1.3million.

The initiative is being widely welcomed in Nkambe and beyond and is expected to encourage greater enrolment of indigenes in professional and vocational education, both within the division and elsewhere.

The Nkambe University Institute of Science and Technology was established and opened in October 2024 to train professionals in health, business and agriculture. The institution has already graduated its first batch of students and currently has an enrolment of about 200 students, with more than 60 teachers on its staff.
