United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Emmanuel N. Nnorom as Group Chairman, ushering in a new chapter of strategic leadership for one of Africa’s leading financial institutions.

The appointment brings to the helm a highly accomplished corporate leader whose distinguished career spans more than four decades across banking, finance, corporate governance, energy, hospitality, healthcare, technology and investment management. His return to UBA as Group Chairman underscores the bank’s commitment to sustaining its growth trajectory and strengthening its position as Africa’s Global Bank.

With operations in 20 African countries and a global presence in the United Kingdom, United States, France and the United Arab Emirates, UBA continues to play a pivotal role in driving financial inclusion, trade and economic development across the continent. Nnorom’s extensive leadership experience and deep understanding of the institution position him uniquely to guide the bank through its next phase of innovation and expansion.

A respected industry veteran, Nnorom most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Holdings, the leading African investment company with interests spanning financial services, power, healthcare, hospitality, real estate, energy and technology. Prior to that, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp), where he successfully led one of Africa’s most diversified conglomerates.

His connection with UBA is both longstanding and impactful. Over more than eight years in senior leadership roles within the Group, he played a significant role in shaping UBA’s transformation into a truly pan-African institution. As Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, he oversaw operations across 18 African countries and was instrumental in executing the bank’s ambitious regional expansion strategy.

Earlier, he served as Group Chief Operating Officer, Group Chief Financial Officer, and held various Executive Director positions covering Finance, Risk Management and the Group Executive Office. His recent tenure as a Non-Executive Director on the UBA Board further strengthened his understanding of the bank’s strategic priorities and future aspirations.

A Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nnorom is also an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). He attended executive leadership and management programmes at Templeton College, Oxford, further enhancing his reputation as a visionary business leader with global perspectives and African expertise.

Commenting on the appointment, industry observers note that Nnorom brings a rare blend of institutional knowledge, proven execution capability and strategic foresight. His extensive experience across multiple sectors is expected to further strengthen UBA’s governance framework, deepen stakeholder confidence and support the Group’s long-term growth ambitions.

As Group Chairman, Nnorom will provide strategic oversight to the Board, championing UBA’s commitment to innovation, customer excellence, sustainable growth and value creation for shareholders across its diverse markets.

His appointment is widely regarded as a significant milestone for UBA, reinforcing the bank’s vision of building a stronger, more integrated and globally competitive African financial institution while continuing to support economic transformation across the continent.

With Emmanuel Nnorom at the helm of its Board, UBA is poised to build on its legacy of excellence and advance its mission of connecting Africa to the world through innovative financial solutions and sustainable growth.
