The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) now has an ultra-odern headquarters befitting the status of five-time African champions.
The five-storey building, comprising 60 offices and conference halls, was inaugurated in Yaounde on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, by Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute in the presence of FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o Fils and Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
Hailed as a major achievement by the current FECAFOOT administration led by Eto’o, the inauguration comes 14 years after the foundation stone was laid in November 2012, at a time when the former Indomitable Lions captain was still an active player with Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala.
The headquarters project was part of an ambitious infrastructure vision initiated by former FECAFOOT president Iya Mohammed. The plan also included the construction of technical centres, stadiums and regional league facilities.
However, Iya Mohammed did not remain at the helm of the federation long enough to realise the project. Seven months after the foundation stone was laid, the former General Manager of the Cameroon Cotton Development Corporation (SODECOTON), was arrested and later sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of misappropriating public funds at the state-owned agro-industrial company.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Eto’o described his predecessor as a visionary administrator who understood the needs and history of Cameroon football.
“Iya Mohammed is a visionary. This beautiful building was his dream. It has taken us more than 14 years, and today the dream is being realised by one of his players, now standing before you as president. His dream has come true,” Eto’o said.
Eto’o, who is serving a second term as FECAFOOT president following his re-election in November 2025, had made completion of the headquarters one of the priorities of his administration.
Before cutting the inauguration ribbon, Prime Minister Dion Ngute congratulated Eto’o for completing the project, adding that President Paul Biya remains committed to investing in sports infrastructure to help Cameroonian athletes flourish.
Several African football figures attended the ceremony, including former Indomitable Lions captain Rigobert Song, Stéphane Mbia, Timothée Atouba, Léandre Tawamba, Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha and Senegalese icon El Hadji Diouf.
