Like most public administrations in the country, incumbent telecoms company, Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) is taking part in this year’s edition of the Government Action Fair (SAGO) where it is showcasing its strategic vision through the presentation of its services, digital solutions, and its upcoming deployment of 5G technology.

The 14th edition of the fair is underway at the forecourt of Yaoundé City Hall under the theme “Public service and the challenge of Cameroon’s economic growth”. Opened on June 30, the fair spans Saturday July 5.

Besides explaining to thousands of Cameroonians visiting their exhibition stand what the company does daily to improve the customer experience through innovation and digital transformation, CAMTEL organised a conference during which its Deputy General Manager, Daniel Désiré Ollé highlighted on the telco’s imminent 5G connectivity deployment and it Quality of Service (QoS) improvement.

Themed “CAMTEL Mobile: For a More Connected Cameroon”, the conference featured insightful discussions on the future of digital technology, national network coverage, and the imminent launch of CAMTEL’s electronic payment solution known as Blue Money.

“Since 2015, CAMTEL has deployed 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies at the same level as other operators. Today, we are moving further with 5G infrastructure already in place on the hardware level. All that remains is activating the software components once the national 5G strategy is officially adopted”, said Mr. Ollé.

The 5G deployment, the Deputy GM of CAMTEL disclosed, is part of a broader network expansion plan aimed at significantly improving service quality and increasing coverage from 40% to 80% starting in early 2025.

Improvements in network speed and performance has become increasingly important for data-intensive tasks such as video streaming and real-time data processing and the imminent deployment of the 5th Generation connectivity by CAMTEL is thus a welcome initiative.

SAGO has established itself as a major hub for partnerships and opportunities for economic stakeholders including CAMTEL that continues to assert its role as a strategic partner in the modernization of public services under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi.
