Ivorian, Joel Hounsinou, has been appointed as Managing Director of Cameroon Railways Corporation (CAMRAIL). Africa Global Logistics (AGL) announced his appointment on Wednesday, December 11. AGL is part of the Italian-Swiss group, MSC which is the concessionaire of the Cameroonian railway network.

Hounsinou who was previously Managing Director of AGL Côte d’Ivoire replaces Pascal Miny, who has been called to other functions within AGL.

The new Managing Director of CAMRAIL is a graduate from the Abidjan Business School and the Houphouët-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute in Yamoussoukro. He also holds an Executive Certificate in Corporate and Business Strategy from HEC Paris and cumulates 29 years of experience in transport and logistics.

He began his career with Arthur Andersen and Coopers & Lybrand auditing firms before joining Bolloré Group (now Africa Global Logistics) in 1995.

“I am honored to join CAMRAIL, and to return to the world of rail that has seen me grow professionally. I look forward to working with the teams to achieve the important goals we have been assigned,” the new Managing Director said.

“I will be particularly attentive to the expectations of the public partner in order to increase the footprint of the railway in Cameroon. I know that I can count on the know-how of my fellow railway workers and on our collective commitment to continue and accelerate the work of my predecessor.

“I arrive with a lot of humility but with faith and a strong will. I would like to thank all those who have placed their trust in me by putting me at the head of this prestigious company, which is CAMRAIL, whose socio-economic impact is visible on a daily basis and very real,” Hounsinou added.

The new CEO’s major challenge will be the construction of the national rail network especially the rehabilitation of certain lines like the Douala-Yaounde and Douala-Ngaoundere likewise the Ngaoundere-N’djamena line.

His appointment comes as the government has announced the creation of new railway lines notably the Limbe-Ideanau and the Edea-Kribi-Lolabe-Campo lines.

This report was first published in NewsWatch newspaper No 193 of Monday, December 16, 2024.
